Darren oversees HRJ's global venture capital and Asian private equity funds. Prior to joining HRJ Capital, Darren was with GIC Special Investments ("GIC SI"), the private equity arm of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation. During his four years at GICSI, he invested USD 240 million into top-tier venture capital firms and into technology startups such as Spinnaker Networks (acquired by Network Appliance in 2003), Clearcube Technology, Cornice, Arbortext (acquired by PTC in 2005), Actional and Placeware (acquired by Microsoft in 2002). He alsorepresented GIC SI as a board observer with Spinnaker Networks, Clearcube and Cornice and was on the LP Review Boards of DCM and Domain Associates. Prior to joining GIC SI, Darren worked in the IT industry for 11 years in various technical and operation roles. His last position was the VicePresident of Technology for a technology startup, Intranesis Communications Pte Ltd, where he was responsible for technology development. Darren received a Master's Degree in Urban Information Systems from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems from the University of Tasmania, Australia.


Kai Hoo heads HRJ Capital's Shanghai office and is responsible for lead-ing HRJ Capital's private equity activities in Asia. Prior to joining HRJ Capital, Kai Hoo was with Unisteel, a publicly listed company headquartered in Singapore, with market capitalization of close toSING 1 billion. While at Unisteel, Kai Hoo was a key member of the senior management team, responsible for mergers & acquisitions, general management, and investor relations. Prior to Unisteel, Kai Hoo worked at Temasek Holdings' fund-of-funds group, where he performed due diligence on private equity and venture capital funds and invested USD100 million into top-tier U.S. and Asia funds. Prior to joining Temasek Holdings, Kai Hoo was an Investment Manager at Rothschild Ventures Asia with responsibilities for evaluating potential investments in growth companies, and preparing exits for existing portfolio companies. He started his career at Economic Development Board of Singapore and worked at attracting foreign investments into Singapore in the electronics and precision engineering sectors. Kai Hoo received a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering and a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). He is a CFA Charter holder and a member of the CFA Institute.


Tina is a member of the venture capital team. Prior to HRJ, Tina served as Investment Manager at Harbinger Venture Management, an Asian venture capital group with presence in the Silicon Valley, China and Taiwan. Previously, Tina worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Senior Auditor and received her CPA license in 2002. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.


Jennifer is a member of the venture capital team. Previously, Jennifer was an investment banking analyst at UBS with the technology group where she worked on mergers and acquisitions transactions and equity and debt financings. Prior to UBS, Jennifer worked for Bank of America as a corporate debt products analyst, underwriting bank debt for companies in the real estate sector. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.


Julia is a member of the Asia team based in our Shanghai Office and supports both buyout and venture capital fund-of-funds activities. Prior to HRJ, Julia was a Senior Analyst at Mercer Consulting. Previously, Julia worked as an M&A Co-Project Manager for Sanpower Group, a large privately-held China conglomerate with business spanning real estate, electronics retailing, and manufacturing. She holds a M.S.C. in Economics, Finance & Management from the University of Bristol, UK and a Bachelor of International Business from University of Sunderland, UK.


Howard oversees HRJ Capital's global real estate funds. Prior to joining HRJ Capital, Howard spent 21 years at Allstate Insurance Company, one of the leading private equity real estate investors in the country. Howard helped transform Allstate from a direct real estate investor to a multi-strategy real estate investor with a rapidly growing portfolio. Beginning in 1990, Howard spearheaded a non-core fund investment strategy that now includes commitments to a highly diversified portfolio of real estate opportunity and value-add funds including 30 fund sponsors. Allstate has active commitments to these strategic real estate funds in excess of USD 2.0 billion. Prior to joining the real estate investment department of Allstate, Howard was a tax attorney with KPMG, Deloitte &Touche and then at Allstate, specializing in the taxation of financial institutions and their investments. Mr. Fields received his Bachelors in Finance from the University of Illinois and his Law Degree from Washington University in St. Louis. Howard is an active member of many professional organizations and a frequent speaker at professional conferences.


Andrew joined HRJ Capital in September 2006 after five years with Allstate Insurance Company where he most recently served as an analyst in the Real Estate Equity Investment group, working on the analysis and underwriting of investments into Private Equity Real Estate funds. Andrew holds an MBA and Honors Bachelor of Arts in History from Marquette University. Andrew is a member of the CFA society of Chicago, a member of the ULI Young Leader's Group, and was awarded the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation in 2003.


Duran oversees HRJ Capital's global buy-out and special opportunities funds and has been an active private equity fund investor since 1997. Prior to joining HRJ Capital, Duran was Managing Director and Head of the U.S. office of LGT Capital Partners, one of the largest European based private equity and hedge fund of funds managers with over USD 8 billion of discretionary capital under management. Before founding LGT's U.S. office, Duran was based in LGT's main office in Zurich, Switzerland. While at LGT, Duran was responsible for over USD 1 billion of private equity fund commitments in buy-out, venture capital and special situations funds. Duran was also deeply involved LGT's co-investment activities in connection with a USD 50 million dedicated co-investment pool for direct investing alongside LGT's buy-out fund managers. While at LGT, Duran was a member of a number of fund advisory boards, including Sun Capital, Wellspring Capital and TPG. Prior to joining LGT Capital Partners, Duran spent nearly five years with Pacific Corporate Group, where he was responsible for the evaluation, due diligence, negotiation and monitoring of private equity fund investments on behalf of major institutional investors such as CalPERS, the State of Oregon and the State of Washington. Duran was also actively involved in PCG's co-investment activities, discretionary separate account relationships and Fund of Funds activities. He began his career at Schroder & Co. in Los Angeles. Duran received his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and B.S. in Finance from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He is a CFA Charter holder and a member of the CFA Institute.Duran was also actively involvedin PCG's co-investment activities, discretionary separate account relationships and Fund of Funds activities.He began his career at Schroder & Co. in Los Angeles. Chris is a member of the buy-out and special opportunities team. Previously, Chris was with Lehman Brothers' Global Mergers & Acquisitions group based in Menlo Park. Prior to Lehman Brothers, Chris worked at Platinum Equity, assisting with due diligence on prospective investments, fundraising and portfolio company operations. Chris also has experience at Harlingwood Equity Partners, an affiliate of BancBoston Capital, where he assisted in all aspects of deal origination and execution. Chris began his career at Pacific Corporate Group where he assisted in both partnership investments as well as co-investment opportunities. Chris received an MBA from UCLA Anderson and a B.A. in Economics from Colorado College.


Pete is a member of the buy-out and special opportunities investment team. Pete began his career as an officer in the United States Navy, where he served as a naval aviator flying the F-14 Tomcat and the FA-18 Hornet. Previously, Pete worked as an associate at Red Eagle Ventures in San Francisco. Pete received an MBA with honors from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.


Jacqueline is a member of the buy-out and special opportunities investment team. Prior to joining HRJ, she worked at LECG researching and analyzing economic and financial issues in litigation of fortune 500 companies. She holds three B.S. degrees in Economics, Finance, and Spanish Literature from Santa Clara University.


Jennifer joined HRJ Capital's hedge fund focused affiliate, Olympius Capital, in August 2004 as Chief Investment Officer. Effective July 1, 2006, she joined HRJ Capital as Head of Hedge Fund Investments, responsible for managing the HRJ Capital hedge fund portfolios. Jennifer was with Credit Suisse First Boston as the co-sector head of the long/short equities investments that firm's Asset Management Division's $7.5 billion fund of hedge funds group, with responsibilities for over $2.5 billion in investments. She joined CSFB through its acquisition of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, where she was an analyst and portfolio manager in the fund of hedge funds group. Prior to joining DLJ, Jennifer was an analyst at Mint Investment Management Company, LLC ("MINT"), where she was responsible for discretionary macro investing in global financial markets. Prior to MINT, she was a currency analyst at Lehman Brothers where she co-authored the morning foreign exchange research letter. She has worked in research on Wall Street since 1993. Jennifer has co-authored two books, one of which was a New York Times business best seller. She has a B.A. in Economics from Trinity College (Hartford, CT) and has done graduate work in economics at New York University. Jennifer was named as one of the Twenty Rising Stars in the Hedge Fund Industry in June 2007 by Institutional Investor.


Michael joined HRJ Capital's hedge fund focused affiliate, Olympius Capital, in March 2006 as Senior Research Associate. Effective July 1, 2006, Michael joined HRJ Capital as Senior Research Associate. Michael is responsible for assisting in the overall investment process, including manager selection and the management of the hedge portfolios. Before joining Olympius, Michael was a Vice President at Credit Suisse, where he spent approximately six years, the last three of which he worked in Credit Suisse's fund of hedge funds group. During his tenure with the group, Michael was a member of the long/short equity investment team and head of client performance reporting. Prior to Credit Suisse, Michael spent three years at Gamco Investors, Inc. (“Gamco”), where he was an Assistant Vice President. At Gamco, Michael focused on client relationships related to separately managed accounts and hedge funds in addition to assisting with marketing and portfolio management. While at Gamco, Michael had the opportunity to work closely with the firm's founder and Chief Investment Officer, Mario J. Gabelli. Michael has a B.A. in English from Boston College. He also holds Series 7 and Series 63 licenses.


Charles joined HRJ Capital’s hedge fund team in September 2007 as an Analyst. Prior to joining HRJ Capital, Charles was a Junior Marketing Consultant for Odyssey, L.P in San Francisco. At Odyssey, he analyzed research data about consumers in the “New Media landscape” and edited and produced custom presentations for clients. He also assisted the Venture Capital arm with research in the telecom, media, and technology sectors. Charles holds a B.A. in History from Princeton University and was a four year member of the football team from 2002-2005, lettering twice at cornerback.


Prior to joining HRJ Capital, Paul was Managing Member of Lyon Ventures, LLC, the investment office of a California-based family. While at Lyon, he managed large portfolios of hedge funds, venture capital funds, and real estate holdings. Prior to joining LyonVentures, Paul was a Managing Director of U.S. Trust Company of New York, Chief Investment Strategist at The Scion Group LLC (the investment office of a New York-based family), Head of Portfolio Management at Credit Suisse Private Banking (New York) and a portfolio manager at Bankers Trust Company. He serves on the advisory boards of several investment management firms. He received an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, an M.A. in Philosophy from Boston College, and a B.A. in Philosophy from Loyola Marymount University. He is a CFA Charter holder and a member of the CFA Institute.
